What’s up with the “Backfro?!”
Jay and Kanye, the leaders of the New Rat Pack showed out on the Grammy stage in black tuxedos and bow ties for a first time, whole crew performance of “Swagger” (including a very bold, pregnant, and polka-dotted M.I.A).
The song was still as hot as it ever was. The guys were too smooth and yet, as we were enjoying the boastfulness of the whole scene, of Wayne and Jay and Kanye in silk and patent leather, our faces couldn’t help but scrunch at the hair.
I get it. It’s the 80’s. They’re style pioneers and all that. But the jury is still out on whether or not this trend, of the Mohawk that morphed into the Kool Moe Dee or Jay’s mop cut like Bill Cosby, will go any further. What more have we to learn from the 80’s?
